In support of all of the Veterans that have honorably served our country, Pack 381 participated in the Hartland Memorial Day Parade on Monday May 28th, 2012 and the placement of Luminaries at the Hartland Cemetery on Sunday May 27th, 2012.
We had 8 of our boys along with their parents helping in the decoration of the float for the parade that demonstrated a fair amount of what we do together as a pack. The float consisted of a mini-display of the Space Derby using one of our freshly painted setups and a few of the rockets that saw action during this years derby in the fall. There were two pinewood derby tracks and 6 display cars that were running down the rails of the trailer as well. Many banners, flags, and other items also adorned the float. The float was pulled through the streets of Hartland by a tractor which sported our huge pack banner hanging off the front. After we got done decorating, we were treated to some flyovers which delighted everyone. The boys and parents braved the near record high 93°F temperatures and fared really well. They passed out candy, flags and flag stickers to many thousands of people that lined the parade route. It was a great team effort to pull together the on-time decoration job along with the wonderful time we had together to celebrate the holiday with each other.
In addition to the parade, our pack was asked by the Hartland Area Community Council to help in the placement of Luminaries at the Hartland Cemetery in downtown Hartland on Sunday Night. The event was supported by a few of our pack and was only a small token of appreciation that we could give back to our Veterans that have served this great Nation. We were impressed by the great learning opportunity that was afforded by many period re-enactors who described many of the Veterans or community people. We also stayed for the American Legion’s ceremony which honored those who have passed.
Here are some photos that were taken during the float decoration and some of us which were either caught by the Livingston Daily or friends along the parade route that day:
